ALL THINGS NEW: REVELATION 21:5

 

    IN THE FIRST THREE CHAPTERS OF GENESIS WE LEARN THAT GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE

    EARTH AND ALL FOUND THEREIN.  GOD CREATED MAN AND PUT HIM IN THE GARDENS OF EDEN, A

    PARADISE.  NEVERTHELESS, MAN SINNED AND WAS TAKEN OUT OF PARADISE.  (GEN. 2:8-10, 15;  3:1-19)

    HERE IN REVELATION 21 AND 22, GOD REVEALS TO US HIS PROMISE OF AN ETERNAL PARADISE,

    WHERE SIN WILL NOT DESTROY.

 

GENESIS DESCRIBES A PARADISE LOST AND

REVELATION DESCRIBES A PARADISE RESTORED.

 

I.  THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH - REVELATION 21:1-7

 

        A. The New Heaven and the New Earth replace our present earth - Rev. 21:1; 2 Peter 3:1-14; Specifically V. 10

        B. The Holy City - The New Jerusalem - Rev. 21:2 In O. T. times Babylon was a city.  In chapters 17 and 18 Babylon

             appears as a symbol of evil and is destroyed.  The Holy City is set forth as a contrast. What had been the Dwelling

             Place of God has now been prepared for us. It's a city where purity and the holiness of God are found.

        C. There life will be eternal and perfect - Rev. 21:4-5 There will be no mourning, pain, tears, or death because they no

             longer exist.

        D. The description of the New Jerusalem - Rev. 21:10-27; 22:1-9 Revelation speaks of the most beautiful things, those

             that speak to the heart and mind of man, in order to communicate the absolute beauty and marvelous prize that we

             are promised.

 

II.    THE FINAL MESSAGE - REVELATION 22:10-21

 

        A. "I am coming soon" - Revelation 22:12 and 2 Peter 3:10

        B. "The Alpha and the Omega" (The Beginning and the End) - Rev. 22:13

        C. The lost will not have a place in the new Jerusalem - Rev. 22:15; 21:8

        D. The promise of Jesus' return - Rev. 22:20;  1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

   

 

QUESTIONS

 

1. T F  Even in the new heaven sin will be our enemy.

 

2. T F  There will be mourning and pain in the New Jerusalem.

 

3. Who will experience all these new things?

 

4. T F  Christ will come again after the Judgment Day.
