TEXTUAL THOUGHTS 1. 1 Timothy 4:12-16- Be an example to the believers in all your life. 2. 1 Timothy 5:22- Think carefully before acting. 3. 1 Timothy 6:9-11- Avoid the temptation of lusting after money. 4. 1 Timothy 6:14- Consistently practice what you preach. 5. Titus 2:7-8- Show yourself to be a pattern of good works. II. MAIN THEME- An evangelist must be an example of the things he is teaching. The opposition will always be looking for some fault, and the evangelist must be especially careful about his speech and his life so that God is glorified. 1. Be an example in humility. a. By admitting your dependence on God, 1 Tim 1:15; Micah 6:8; James 4:10. b. By respecting and submitting to others, 2 Tim 2:24; Mat 7:12; Eph 4:30-32. c. By avoiding foolish arguments, 2 Tim 2:14, 23; 1 Tim 4:7; 6:3-5; Titus 1:14, 3:2, 9; Rom 14:1-4. 2. Be an example in hard work. a. By regular Bible study, 1 Tim 4:13-16; 2 Tim 2:15; Acts 17:11. b. By using your abilities in God's service, 1 Tim 4:14-16; 2 Tim 1:6-8; Mat 25:14-30. 3. Be an example in your manner of living. a. By practicing what you preach, 1 Tim 6:14; Titus 2:7-8; Mat 23. b. By putting spiritual things first, 1 Tim 6:9-11; Mat 6:19-34; 2 Tim 2:4. c. By avoiding fleshly temptations, 2 Tim 2:22; Titus 2:12; Gal 5:16. 4. Be an example in faith. a. By trusting God's power, 1 Tim 1:17-19; 2 Tim 1:7-10; 4:17. b. By always teaching God's word, 2 Tim 3:15-17; 4:2; 1 Tim 4:6, 16. c. By living zealously for God, 1 Tim 1:18; 4:15; 6:12; 2 Tim 2:15.
