                4. 2 Timothy 2:2- Entrust the message to faithful men.

II. MAIN THEME- Part of our ministry as evangelists is to prepare others to be teachers and to entrust the gospel to them.  We must not be hasty in trusting others with the message, but seek out those who have sincere faith and pure hearts.

                1. Entrust the message to faithful men.

                                a. As Jesus did, Mark 3:13-14; Luke 10:1-9.

                                b. As Jesus set the order, Ephesians 4:11-13.

                                c. As the Holy Spirit commanded by Paul, 2 Tim 2:2; Titus 1:5.

                2. The message is:

                                a. The gospel that saves, 1 Cor 15:1-4; Titus 3:4-7; 2 Tim 1:8-11.

                                b. A gospel that is never bound, 2 Tim 2:9.

                                c. A gospel that God has entrusted to us, 2 Cor 5:18-19; 1 Tim 1:11-12.

                3. Faithful men are:

                                a. Men with sincere faith, 1 Tim 1:5, 18-19; 2 Tim 1:5, 13; 2:19.

                                b. Not seeking their own selfish desires, Phil 3:17-19; 2 Tim 3:1-9; 4:10.

                                c. Men who will face trouble for the Lord, 2 Tim 2:3-10; 4:2-5.

                4. Who will be able to teach others.

                                a. Men must be prepared constantly to carry the message to future

                                    generations, 2 Tim 2:2; 3:14-17; Titus 1:9; Mat 28:19.

                                b. We must send out preachers, Rom 10:13-15; 2 Tim 4:2.

                                c. So that the church can be edified, Eph 4:11-13; Titus 1:5.

III. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

                1. If you are an evangelist, do the work of an evangelist:

                                a. By living a Christ-like life, 1 Tim 4:11-16; Phil 2:19-23.

                                b. By enduring hardship, 2 Tim 1:8-12; 2:3-5; 4:5.

                                c. By training and appointing teachers and leaders in the church,

                                    2 Tim 2:2, 24-26; Titus 1:5; 1 Tim 1:3.

                                d. By preaching the word constantly, 2 Tim 4:2-5.

2. Philip is an example of an evangelist working effectively: He preached the word

in a new place, Acts 8:5- He started the church there, Acts 8:12- He preached to

one person, Acts 8:35-39- He was a servant to the church, Acts 21:8.

                3. Avoid training men who have these qualities: Faithless, 1 Tim 1:19-20;

                                Selfish, 1 Tim 6:3-10; Contentious, 2 Tim 2:16-18; Titus 3:9-11.

                4. Train these kind of men: Those who pursue faith, righteousness, and purity,

1 Tim 6:11- Those who are sincere, 2 Tim 1:5- Those who endure hardship,

                                2 Tim 2:3; 4:5- Those who are servants, 1 Tim 4:6; Phil 2:5-8.
