                4. 2 Timothy 3:2- Beware of selfish pride.

                5. Titus 2:12- Do not pursue the worldly desires of this age.

II. MAIN THEME- The temptations that appeal to human nature by the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, will destroy our ministry unless we trust in the eternal blessings of Jesus Christ.

                1. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

                                a. Greed causes men to stray from the faith, 1 Tim 6:10; 2 Tim 4:3-4.

                                b. Greed causes men to create a following for themselves, Titus 1:10-11.

                                c. Contentment defends against greed, 1 Tim 6:6-8; Phil 4:10-13.

                                d. Pursue eternal values instead of money, 1 Tim 6:11; Gal 5:22-26.

                2. Youthful, fleshly desires will destroy those who practice worldliness.

                                a. Sexual immorality is evidence of unrighteousness, 2 Pet 2:10-14, 19.

                                b. Run from youthful desires, 2 Tim 2:22; Titus 2:12.

                                c. Do not take advantage of those you are to help, 2 Tim 3:6; Heb 13:4.

                                d. Pursue righteousness instead of worldliness, 2 Tim 2:22.

                3. A quarrelsome, argumentative spirit is evidence of worldliness.

                                a. An argumentative spirit comes from pride, 2 Tim 2:23-26; 1 Tim 6:3-5.

                                b. We should seek to be kind and gentle, 2 Tim 2:24-26; 1 Tim 6:11.

                4. A selfish, proud spirit is evidence of fallen nature.

                                a. Arrogance denies the power of God, 2 Tim 3:1-5; Rom 12:3.

                                b. Trusting God's grace removes arrogance, 1 Tim 1:14-16; Eph 2:4-10.

III. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

                1. Pursue godly virtue and you will overcome fleshly desires, 1 Tim 6:11;

                                2 Tim 2:22; Phil 4:8.

                2. Desire eternal things instead of temporary things, 1 Tim 6:7; 1 John2:15-17.

                3. Do not be controlled by your human nature, but let Jesus control your life,

                                1 John 5:1-5; Titus 2:11-14; Gal 5:13-26.

                4. Always be aware of how dangerous is the love of money, 1 Tim 6:10;

                5. Always wanting to win an argument is evidence of human pride and should

                                be controlled.  The Holy Spirit teaches us to be peaceable, even when we are

                                supporting our faith.  Jude 3, 17-23; II Tim 2:24-26; 3:10-17; Rom 14:1-13.
