We have life by being partakers of Jesus Christ II. MAIN THEME - Jesus Christ is the
central theme of the Bible. The importance of the scriptures is that they
bring us to Christ and to the life that is in Him. Many great themes are pre- sented in the
writings of Moses and other prophets that are fulfilled in Jesus Christ. As an example, we
are looking at the theme of Redemption found in the Bible: 1. God is the Redeemer of
His people - Exodus 15:13 a. Israel is an
example for the church - 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 b. God promised
redemption through Israel - Genesis 12:3 c. The promise
continued through David - 2 Samuel 7:12-17 d. The promise
is realized in Jesus Christ - Galatians 3:15-29; 1 Peter 1:18-19 2. Redemption is accomplished
by the grace of God - Genesis 3:21 a. God extended
His grace to Abraham - Genesis 15:1-6 b. God chose to
deliver Israel from bondage through Moses - Exodus 3:7-10 c. Deliverance
was accomplished through death, sacrifice, blood - Exodus 12:21-28 d. The church is
redeemed by grace - John 3:16;
Ephesians 2:13-19 3. Redemption is received
by an obedient faith - Genesis 15:6;
Exodus 12:28 a. Rahab spared
by this kind of faith - Joshua 2:1-21; 6:25; James 2:25 b. Israel
delivered from the Egyptian army by obedient faith - Exodus 14:13-31 c. Those who
believe in God are justified by faith - Romans 4:20-5:2 d. This faith is
evidenced by our obedience to God whom we realize has all the power to save - Romans 6:15-18; Hebrews 5:9; 1 Peter 1:22; Romans
1:5; 16:25-27 III. APPLICATION 1. We need to understand that
redemption depends on God's power and not on our own abilities - Romans 3:21-26; 5:1-8;
8:31-39 2. God has promised to redeem all who
have faith in Him, so we must be faithful in order to receive His blessings - Hebrews
10:19-25 3. Obedience is the result of saving
faith, and there is no sincere faith without obedience - Romans 6:6-18; 8:12-15;
11:20-22; 12:1-2; James
2:14-26 4. Other great themes in the Bible
include: God's love. sin,
righteousness, man's free
will, man's quest for peace, the need for sacrifice, the kingdom of God, the family of God.... 5. It gives great joy to follow a theme
from the Bible's opening pages in Genesis until it closes in
Revelation. Notice how it all fits
into Jesus - Matthew 5:17 IV. MEMORY VERSE - 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 |
