I. TEXTUAL THOUGHTS

                1. 2 Timothy 2:15, 21- To be approved and to handle God's word properly, you

                                must be a workman.

                2. 2 Timothy 3:16-17- The Bible prepares us for every good work.

                3. Titus 2;7; 3:1- Be an example of and be ready for good works.

                4. Titus 1:15-16- Unbelievers (especially law binders) are disqualified for every

                                good work.

II. MAIN THEME- Evangelists must be workmen to be approved of God.  Study and hard work are required in order to be qualified as teachers of God's word.  Binding your opinions as law is not part of being an approved workman.

                1. Being approved requires diligence and hard work.

                                a. Study is required, 2 Tim 2:15; 3:14-17; 1 Tim 4:13-16.

                                b. Right handling of God's word is necessary, 2 Tim 2:15; 21-26.

                                c. The right attitude is needed, Titus 2:15-16; 3:4-11; Eph 2:8-10.

                2. Being approved requires doing good works.

                                a. Because God created us in Jesus for that purpose, Eph 2:10; Titus 3:8.

                                b. Christians must desire good works, Titus 2:11-14; 3:1, 8, 14.

                3. Some good works approved by God:

                                a. Being a woman with a quiet spirit, 1 Tim 2:8-11; 1 Pet 3:1-6.

                                b. Holding the responsibility of being and Elder, 1 Tim 3:1

                                c. Being willing to give to others, 1 Tim 6:18; Acts 20:35; 2 Cor 8:1-6.

                                d. Preaching the word in all seasons, 2 Tim 4:1-5; 1 Tim 4:6-10.

                                e. Submitting to rulers and being obedient, Titus 3:1; 1 Tim 2:1-8.

                4. Some things that hinder good works.

                                a. A law-binding, legalistic attitude, Titus 1:10-16; 1 Tim 1:6-7; 4:1-5.

                                b. Foolish arguing and controversy, 2 Tim 2:14-16, 21-23.

                                c. Setting our hope in this world, 1 Tim 6:17-19; 1 John 2:15-17.

III. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

                1. Our lives will be revealed in time, so we should live sincere lives, 1 Tim 5:24-25.

                2. You need to be an example of good works to others, Titus 3:8; 1 Tim 4:12-16.

                3. Honor widows who are doing good works, 1 Tim 5:1-10; Titus 2:3-5.

                4. Remember that we are justified by grace, and that good works are an expression

of our new being as children of God, 2 Tim 1:8-11; Titus 3:4-8.

                5. Avoid arguing about useless things because these kinds of arguments destroy faith, cause strife, and hinder good

                                works- 1 Tim 1:4; 6:3-6; 2 Tim 2:23; Titus 3:9-11.
