THE   LORD'S   SERVANT

 

 

I. TEXTUAL THOUGHTS

                1. 1 Timothy 6:11-16- Pursue righteousness, fight the good fight of faith.

                2. 2 Timothy 1:13-14- Hold fast the pattern of sound words.

                3. 2 Timothy 2:3-4- Endure hardship as a good soldier.

                4. 1 Timothy 4:6-16- Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine.

                5. 2 Timothy 2:22-26- Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace.

 

II. MAIN THEME- The Lord's servant is able to do good deeds because he looks to God and His word for strength and guidance in his life.  He is peaceful and gentle because he knows that God will supply everything needed to those who belong to Him.

                1. Some qualities of the Lord's bond-servant.

                                a. He actively pursues righteousness, 1 Tim 4:6-11; 6:11-16; 2 Tim 2:22-26.

                                b. He has good motives, 2 Tim 1:1-8; Titus 1:15; 2:7-15.

                                c. He trusts God's word, 2 Tim 1:13-14;  3:14-17; 1 Tim 4:6-16; Titus 2:7-8.

                                d. He is gentle and kind, 2 Tim 2:24-26; 1 Tim 6:11-14; Titus 3:1-2.

                                e. He understands that he belongs to God, 1 Tim 1:16-17; 3:15; 2 Tim 1:9-12.

                2. Some responsibilities of the Lord's bond-servant.

                                a. He corrects those who are opposed to Jesus, 2 Tim 4:2-5; 2:25;

                                    Titus 1:5, 11; 2:15; 3:10.

                                b. He involves others in leadership, Titus 1:5; 2 Tim 2:2; 1 Tim 1:3.

                                c. He does good deeds; 1 Tim 2:1-8; 4:12; 6:17-19; Titus 3:8.

                                d. He refuses foolish and ignorant speculation; Titus 3:9; 1 Tim 6:3-5.

 

III. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

                1. Remember that you belong to God, and serve Him with love, Titus 3:1-8.

                2. Actively pursue a life pleasing to God, because you understand His will for your

                                life, 1 Tim 4:6-16; 2 Tim 1:7-13; 2:3-5, 9-13; 4:5.

                3. Set in order the things of God according to the opportunity and responsibility that Gods gives to you,

                                2 Tim 1:8; 2:1-2, 15-16; 3:17; 4:2; Titus 1:5; 2:7-8.

                4. Add the qualities of Jesus Christ to your life by study, meditation, diligent application, and practice, Titus 2:6-15;

                                2 Tim 3:14-17; 1 Tim 4:11-16.

                5. You cannot serve two masters, Mat 6:24; 1 Tim 6:9-10; 1 John 2:15-17.

                6. Teach the rich to give, 1 Tim 6:17-19; Luke 16:1-13; Acts 20:35.
