OUR EXAMPLE IN LOVE

 

 

I.  TEXTUALTHOUGHTS

            1.  Mark 12:30-33 - Loving God and loving our neighbor is of first importance

            2:  Matthew 16:24-26 - We must be willing to suffer in order to follow Jesus

            3.  Colossians 1:14-20 - We have redemption through the blood of Jesus

            4.  1 Timothy 6:10, 17-19 - We should be rich in good works, not worldly riches.

            5.  Revelation 22:13 - Jesus is the beginning and the end, we must put our trust in Him

            6.  John 13:34-35 - Jesus set the example of love and service

 

II.  MAIN THEME:  Hebrews 13:1-25 - Do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.  Honor those who set the example for you spiritually.  Let brotherly love continue.

            1.  Trust God to provide for us by:  verses 1-6

                        a.  loving our fellow Christians - verse 1; Mark 12:30-33; John 13:34-35;

                        b.  showing hospitality to strangers - verse 2; Titus 1:8; 1 Tim 3:2; 1 Peter 4:9

                        c.  remembering those who are in prison - verse 3; Matt 25:35-36; Phil 1:7

                        d.  living pure lives - verse 4; 1 Cor 6:15-20; 1 John 3:1-4

                        e.  being content with what we have - verse 5; 1 Tim 6:6; Phil 4:11

                        f.  putting our confidence in God to help - verse 6; Phil 4:12-13

            2.  Trust in the words of Jesus Christ, which are unchanging, - verses 7-9

                        a.  by following the example of godly men - verse 7; 1 Tim 4:12; Phil 3:17; 1 Cor 11:1

                        b.  by trusting Jesus to remain the same always - verse 8; Rev 22:13

                        c.  by avoiding doctrines about food and other strange things - verse 9; Col 2:18-23

            3.  Trust in sharing the reproach of Jesus - verses 10-16

                        a.  by understanding the sacrifice of Jesus - verses 10-12; John 3:14; 6:54-58; 1 Cor 11:23-29

                        b.  by sharing His reproach - verse 13; Heb 12:2; Matt 10:38; 16:24-26;

                        c.  by seeking the heavenly city - verse 14; Rev 21:9-27; Heb 11:16; John 14:2-3

                        d.  by continually praising God - verse 15; Eph 5:18-20; Acts 2:47

                        e.  by doing good and sharing - verse 16; 2 Cor 8:7-15; Acts 4:32-35; Gal 6:6; 1 Tim 6:17-19; Luke 16:9-13

            4.  Trust God to complete our lives and service - verses 17-25

                        a.  by respecting those who rule over us - verses 7, 17-19, 24; 1 Tim 5:17; Acts 20:28, 1 Pet 5:2-7

                        b.  by trusting in the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus Christ - verses 20-21; Matt 26:28; Luke 22:20

                            John 19:34, Rom 3:25-26; Col 1:14-20; Heb 9:12-14; 1 Pet 1:19; I Jn 1:7; Rev 7:14

                        c.  by praying for God’s blessing upon our fellow workers - verses 22-25; 1 Tim 2:8

 

III.  PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

         1.  Remember that Jesus will judge us by how we treat our fellow Christians - verses 1-3; Matt 25:31-46

            2.  Sharing this world's goods with others is pleasing to Jesus - verse 2 and 16; Luke 16:9-13; Acts 4:32-35

            3.  Remember we are trusting Jesus when we obey His words - verses 7-9; John 14:15,:21; 15:10; I Jn 3:22-24

                 1 John 5:2-3; Rev 22:14

            4.  Marriage is ordained of God, and is to be honored by our being faithful to our wife or husband - verse 4;

                 1 Cor 6:12-20; 7:10-11; Romans 7:1-2; Matt 19:3-9

            5.  Covetousness is idolatry, and the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil - verse 5; Col 3:5; 1 Tim 6:10

            6.  Jesus does not change, and His word will endure forever - verses 8-9, 20,22;
